A plaque on the cairn has the following inscription:- BIRGHAM MILLENNIUM CAIRN Erected by the villagers of Birgham to commemorate millennium 2000, and as a memorial to the residents of Birgham who have laid down their lives in past wars to defend the freedom of our country. This cairn also marks Birgham's place in history as the location of the signing of the "Treaty of Birgham", between Scotland and England, on 18th July 1290. Officially unveiled jointly by the 2000 "Coldstreamer" and "Kelso Laddie", assisted by members of the "Coldstream Guards" on the 9th August 2000.
