Shands Road provided a private road for mineral traffic to nearby open cast workings in the 1960s. Previous to this, the Mountain Branch of the Central Wales Line ran along this route and there was a level crossing. Today, it's closed and has remained unused for many years. Leaves cover the tarmac and a fallen tree obscures part of the road.
