The incinerator is very controversial and had much opposition from locals who saw its construction and use as something imposed by Brighton and Hove City Council. It is referred to as 'Poohaven'. The construction is certainly imposing and bright, especially on sunny days. However, supporters claim that this part of Newhaven is fairly tawdry anyway and needed investment.
