Near the Sandlings Walk footpath off Dobbs Lane It is believed that in 1740 a local shepherd named John Dobbs, lost one of the sheep in his care. He feared the penalty would be transportation to Australia rather than this he hanged himself in a barn at Hall Farm (later Grange Farm). In those days suicides were not buried in Church Cemeteries but in unconsecrated ground often at crossroads. The crossroads here are the tracks that mark the boundaries of Kesgrave, Martlesham, Foxwell & Brightwell.
