(Rear view) Springfield Hall off Springfield Road. A grade II listed mill owners house built in the early to mid 19th century in stone with a Welsh blue slate roof. It was built for Mr John Webster who owned Rods Mill and employed a large number of workers. In 1862 Joseph Smith bought it and erected Springfield Mill at the rear of the house. In 1864 Dixon Nichols & Co bought the estate and manufactured union cloth. Now a retirement home.
