View eastward, towards Manchester Victoria etc.: ex-L&Y main lines westward from Manchester. The 17.22 to Southport will call only at Wigan Wallgate and Southport St Luke's, reaching Southport Chapel Street at 18.15. The locomotive is Stanier/Ivatt 5MT 4-6-0 No. 44729 (built 1/49, withdrawn 10/66). Over on the far right are the ex-LNW lines westward from Manchester Exchange.
