St. Peter-at-Gowts

Image: © Jo and Steve Turner Taken: Unknown

Church near Gowt's Bridge in High Street. The name derives from the gowts ("go outs")* or watercourses nearby. The church includes a Norman tower, apparently from the original structure. The church was restored and enlarged in 1887. * The derivation of Gowt is uncertain but variously agreed to be some form of watercourse.
