This is one of two grottos built for Dr Alexander Munro of Craiglockhart in about 1830, when such buildings were very fashionable. They were intended to provide shelter for ladies strolling in the gardens. This is the rear of the building, showing the window which offers a view up the insignificant but romantic (in the literary sense) Oriel Cottage Burn, which marks the boundary between the estates of Redhall and Craiglockhart.
