One of the high speed "Pendolino" (http://www.railway-technology.com/projects/virgin/ - Rail Technology) trains passes through Poynton Station. The Pendolino trains are designed to be able to travel at speeds up to 140mph. I doubt that this one would be travelling at its maximum speed but it was pretty quick! No wonder they put up signs warning you to keep away from the edge of the platform to avoid the turbulence.
