Entrance to the Deep

The shaft runs down 250 metres to the concealed Leicestershire coalfield. Up to 12 men could fit into one cage. One accident that happened was when the cage didn't stop, sending the men to the bottom. The water in the shaft base saved them but didn't prevent serious injuries.
