This is one of the classic views of the village, featuring the beck and two of its bridges. The Mechanics' Institute, built in 1859, was latterly the haunt of elderly men and youths with a common interest in snooker and billiards; it is now a private dwelling. This photograph is dedicated to some of them: Old Rolly S, big Rolly C, Squire J, Walter S, Len H and Ken M - my late father: a great bunch of village characters, no longer with us.
