At about 0920 on 9-11-11 the fire alarm was triggered at Worcestershire Royal Hospital leading to a partial evacuation lasting about 2 hours for some people and the attendance of four pump units from Worcester and a hydraulic platform from Hereford. This was added to by numerous ambulances, paramedic cars, police cars and an Audi A4 that I think was the fire control car. After all this, no fire was found and it is believed that smoke was ingested by the hospital's air-handling plant and in response to the smell of burning, the alarm was triggered at a break-glass point. Anybody who works in a hospital will be used to false alarms or burnt toast incidents but this was on an altogether grander scale and was handled well and without further incident.
