View NW, towards Virginia Water and Reading: ex-LSW Virginia Water - Weybridge Loop line. This memorable Railway Correspondence & Travel Society Tour in April 1954 had started from Victoria (behind two 'Dukedog' 4-4-0s) to proceed via Longhedge and Kensington to the GWR main line at Old Oak Common. At Swindon the Works was visited and a Special took us to Highworth and back. On the return journey a 47XX 2-8-0 brought us back to Reading General, where this SR (ex-LSW) Urie class H16 4-6-2T took over and deviating short of Virginia Water onto the - normally freight-only - loop to the line to Weybridge. From there it was up the main line to Wimbledon, where we had to divert onto the East Putney loop to go through Clapham Junction on the Windsor Lines before finally reaching Victoria via Longhedge Junction. The H16 (No. 30517 - built 11/21, withdrawn 12/62) was substituted at Clapham Junction by a class C 0-6-0 for the last leg to Victoria.
