John Mowlem, the son of a Swanage quarryman, became a successful businessman in the stone trade. With interests locally and in Guernsey, he worked personally on Nelson's tomb and eventually had contracts for many government buildings in Victorian London. He died in 1868 and is buried in a vault under this stone pyramid. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Mowlem
