Beach at Littlestone-on-Sea

Littlestone-on-Sea was laid out towards the end of the 19th century with the intention of forming 'a marine town'. The marine town never materialised but the hotels and boarding houses facing the sea, which can be seen here beyond the boats pulled up on the beach, are more impressive than the bungalows facing the sea to the south at Greatstone-on-Sea. The plant on the shingle is sea kale, also known as sea cabbage.
