The Auld Kirk - Rathfriland's First Presbyterian Church

This church dates back to the 1690s. In 1798 its minister, Samuel Barber, was sentenced to 2 years in Downpatrick Jail for his part in the United Irishmen's Rebellion. This was an uprising against the Crown mainly by Roman Catholics and Presbyterians, though the leaders, including Wolfe Tone and Thomas Russell were Anglicans. Image
