The apartments are in a Grade II listed former warehouse. The Wooden Canal Boat Society website reports in 1998 that: "The North Staffordshire Warehouse at Preston Brook still stands empty. It used to be the Old Number One pub and night club until it burned down. As a listed building it has now been rebuilt and is being advertised as offices, but has been empty for several years." http://www.wcbs.org.uk/old-news/southams-journey-from-runcorn-to-ashton The Bridgewater Canal was opened in stages between 1761 and 1776.
