The blocks of sandstone in this wall are tinged both green and red - evidence that the rock contains iron compounds. The stonework has been decorated by galletting - little chips of darkish stone have been pressed into the jointing (mortar courses). Often, in this area of England, galletting consists of chips of flint, but in this instance it looks as if chips of sandstone have been used - matching exactly the main building blocks. Until very recently I knew of no examples of galletting outside SE England, but my friend ceridwen http://www.geograph.org.uk/profile/6699 reports finding an old house with galletted stonework in Pennsylvania, USA http://www.blipfoto.com/entry/1422526.
