The Rufus Stone, New Forest

The stone memorial is encased in a cast iron triangular cover (done in 1841 to prevent vandalism) which tells a version of the death of William Rufus in 1100. It is now considered more likely that Rufus was killed near Througham, some 20km southeast of this memorial.
