The Church of St George on Chester Road, near to the Mancunian Way junction, was a Commissioners' church, built between 1826 and 1828 and restored in 1884. St George's closed as a place for religious worship in 1984. Designated a Grade II* listed building, this grand building was eventually converted for use as residential apartments in 2000-2.
