Birmingham Canal Navigations Main Line. The canal was diverted in 1849/1850 when High Level railway station was built. Consequently the northern end of the original canal remained as Broad Street Basin. In 1869 this was leased to the Shropshire Union Railways and Canal Company who built the current warehouse, offices, and stables around the basin in 1870. The basin now provides sanitary facilities and other services for boat crews. In the distance is the 2009 twenty-four storey student accommodation block - part of Victoria Hall.
