95 years after the worst rail crash in British history, a memorial was placed on the parapet of Blacksike Bridge overlooking the passing loops at Quintinshill Image Of the 227 killed, 213 were members of the 7th Royal Scots travelling in wooden frame carriages with little crash resistance, and lit by gas which resulted in a major conflagration after the crash which burned for two days. There is also a memorial cairn at the Gretna Green Blacksmith's Shop Image, erected in 1995.
