This piece of carved stonework, also shown in Image, has been incorporated into a modern building that stands beside a Image; see the latter photograph for context. The stone is dated 1675 (the worn '5' looks a little like a '6'), and, as explained in the Linlithgow Heritage Trail leaflet, it came from a building called the Golden Cross, which used to stand in this area, but which was demolished in the 1960s: see https://canmore.org.uk/site/49258/linlithgow-2-the-cross-golden-cross-cafe (at Canmore). The object at the lower left is one that appears on various sites on the Heritage Trail; it bears the town motto: "St Michael is kinde to strangers", on which, see Image
