"As part of the Chaucer Buchanan District Centre a new Library Learning Centre and public square is being built. It will house Parson Cross Library and Sheffield Homes Housing Office on the ground floor with teachning space, and ICT suite and community rooms on the first floor. The building is being developed by Sheffield City Council but will be transferred to SOAR on a 25 year lease to manage as a community asset. Planning permission has been secured and work should start on site in March 2010. The Learning Zone and public square will be the first development in the new district centre. The square will be the key public space in the new centre and will provide space for a range of community activities. The building will be rated excellent under the long standing, world class BREEAM environmental assessment method for buildings. This means the building will achieve the highest standards of energy efficiency and have environmentally friendly features such as a wild flower green roof and air source heat pumps.
