These listed buildings are the Charles Sheils Charity Houses which are situated on the western outskirts of Killough. They were designed by Lanyon, Lynn and Lanyon on the instructions of Charles Sheils, an Ulsterman who had made a fortune in the cotton industry in Liverpool. They were built in 1868. Similar alms houses were built at Carrickfergus and Armagh. Charles Sheils was a Killough boy, the son of Patrick Sheils. There are 32 houses, arranged in 4 blocks, and a large communal garden on this site.
