The alley is a remnant of a former notorious slum that included Image and another alley known as Pimlico. Inhabited by poor fishing families the area was the first slum clearance in Brighton being removed in the 1870s and replaced with nearby Tichbourne Street. The alley is now a private path linking the rear of buildings in Orange Row and Tichbourne Street.
