This is the room where, in 1847, Simpson performed his chloroform experiment on two dinner guests who, like himself, were rendered unconscious until the following morning. The house is now a training centre for those involved in counselling children. The rag dolls on the table are almost symbolic of the children whose mothers benefited in childbirth from the anaesthetic properties of the drug.
