The road sign points straight ahead up Nuthall Road and out of the city and left up Aspley Lane to Aspley, Broxtowe and Strelley Estates. With a colliery off to the left there were no such frivolities as baskets of petunias and fuchsias here when I lived in this neighbourhood fifty and more years ago - and no pedestrian-protecting barriers to put them on, either. Bobbers Mill Bridge was built in the late 1930s, at the same time as the western ring road, and is similar in design to the bridges on Western Boulevard and at Wilkinson Street.
