The ostentatious monument, colloquially known as the "American Fountain" in Rother Market surrounded by the sideshows and rides of the annual Stratford Mop. The Mop used to be a hiring fair and those seeking employment carried items or tools symbolising their trade, such as a mop. An Image explains its origin.
