Approaching the 'piazza' at the end of Grange Road and the gates into the University campus. From the Birmingham City Council website: The stub section of Grange Road, fronting Westley Richards Gun Factory, would be stopped up for vehicular use. The Piazza would be created using high quality paving, street furniture, lighting and tree planting at one of the main pedestrian and cycle points to the University of Birmingham campus. The Piazza would cover a total area of approximately 1300 square metres and this would give ample space for the student patronage to / from the University. A 10 metre wide Toucan crossing would be provided on the road at this location. A cycleway would be routed through the Piazza providing a cycle link from the new road to the University campus and from the new road to Grange Road leading to Selly Oak Centre." http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/sellyoaknewroad Not obvious from this shot, but the engineer have completely forgotten to put in any dropped kerb to provide access for cyclists to / from Grange Road / Dale Road. Doh!
