It is sometimes difficult to recall the direction in which I was looking when submitting an older photo. But here it is quite clear. The shielding of the light, seen on the right, is intended to stop the revolving beams creating a nuisance on the nearby land (where they are not needed). In this instance all the land is to the north of the lighthouse: hence I am looking west!
