Shortlands station was originally opened by the West End of London & Crystal Palace Railway on 3rd May 1858, when it was named Bromley. The station was enlarged in 1892-94. The attractive ornate ironwork in the roof can be seen here, as well as the bridge over Beckenham Lane just beyond the end of the platform.
