Leylandii amongst the pines

There are a couple of stands of leylandii in this part of Sherwood Pines forest park, close to the north-eastern edge. They seemed a bit incongruous amongst the pines, beeches & sweet chestnut trees. I wondered whether they might be some sort of experimental planting.
