Looking into Nile Street from the municipal car park. I can't help thinking that the grey building - now industrial premises - must once have been a non-conformist chapel. Nile Street no doubt got its name not long after the Battle of Aboukir Bay, in 1798, and this modest building could well date from the early 1800's. It has in any case seen a lot more history than some of its fancier neighbours. The light on this August evening was as clear and crisp as you could hope for on a Greek island. Update, 21.9.2011: I have to thank Michael Ford for the following information - the building dates from 1808 and was once a Congregational chapel.
