The building to the fore is by Edwin Lutyens, Whitney, Son & Austen Hall in 1929-31 for Midland Bank. There is a rusticated mezzanine floor with arched architraves and sills making the windows look almost circular. Grade II listed. Next door, by William Nimmo & Partners, 1989-92, borrows from it. Beyond that is 147 by J.W. O'Connor for Grace & Co in 1926-27. American-influenced as both architect and client, a private bank, were American. Grade II listed.
