The Overseas Bankers' Club. An "amazing building for its date: 1866" wrote Pevsner. It was built for the General Credit Company to the designs of George Somers Clarke. The style is Venetian Gothic, the materials Portland stone with a brown sandstone plinth, red and white stone and black marble for the entrance. Very refined decoration with traceried windows, balconies on corbels, and unusual curved chimneys. A real gem tucked away, and not easy to appreciate, in one of the City's narrow streets. Grade II* listed. On the far left is a bit of the spire of Wren's St Margaret.
