Originally a private residence which began to be used for trades during the 1920s often changing from year to year until 1935 when it was occupied up to the outbreak of the war by a hairdresser called Claude Strong. Strong was to move out of the street during the war but was still plying his trade on nearby Trafalgar Street in the late 1970s. The changes slowed slightly after the war and settled onto clothing or fancy goods until 1975 when it was briefly a toy shop.
