Along the roadsides of this part of Bedfordshire are numerous cast iron pillar fountains, manufactured in the late 19th century (?) in Kilmarnock by the firm of Glenfield and Kennedy. The fountain features a fluted cast iron cylindrical column, with moulded domed top, incorporating the tap lever handle; a lion's head incorporates water outlet. These installations formed part of the fresh water supply to the area.
