This was once a pond

When the River Pool was opened up and landscaped in 1995-6 to create Riverview Walk, a pond was created at the north end of the old Bell Green Gas Works site, to the west of the Pool. At the time of the Millennium it was still an open area of water with no nearby trees, but as can be seen in this photograph, the subsequent ten years have not treated the pond well. It is now choked with vegetation and surrounded by trees, the leaf fall of which help further to choke the pond.
