This little thatched museum in Dunvegan commemorates Angus MacAskill, born not here but on the Island of Berneray, who emigrated to Cape Breton Island and grew to become 7 ft 9 in (2.36 m) tall. He became well known in his youth for feats of strength and eventually joined Barnum's circus, performing as a strong man. After a circus career he returned to Cape Breton Island where he died in 1863. The museum in Dunvegan opened in 1989 and is run by a member of the MacAskill clan, Peter. There is another museum commemorating Angus MacAskill at his hometown, Englishtown on Cape Breton Island.
