To the right is the branch to Leek (this was the new main line route opened by 1800). This turns left and crosses over the main line at Hazelhurst Aqueduct about six hundred metres ahead. Straight ahead, down a flight of three locks, is the main line to Froghall, opened in 1841 replacing the circa 1800 line. An extension to Uttoxeter opened in 1811 only lasted until the late 1840s before being replaced by a railway. August 2004 Image]
