James Place is part of the promenade which extends all along the seaward side of Broughty Ferry. In the 19th century it was the main road along the coast, superseded first by what is now the A930 to the north, and then by what is now the A92 trunk road still further north, leaving it as a peaceful area to stroll along and admire the Tay estuary.
