Before the opening of the Banbridge by-pass in 1978, the Cascum Road led east-southeast from the here on the Newry Road, along the side of the Down Shoes factory. Subsequently it was accessed directly from the by-pass. When the Bridgewater Park Outlet village was built in the late 2000s, the Cascum Road was cut in length even more, with the access being moved further east. Since the redevelopment of the adjacent factory began, this long disused section has been closed off completely.
