Thomas Telford was responsible for building many roads especially the London to Holyhead road. Telford pulled out all the stops in creating the 106 mile road between Shrewsbury & Holyhead which carved its way through the Welsh Hills and past Oswestry, following the Dee Valley through Chirk and Llangollen. Holyhead road is now known as the modern A5 between Shrewsbury & Holyhead. (Shropshire Tourism - Thomas Telford).
