This is the 1789 woollen finishing mill with water powered fulling stocks. The mill pond is in the foreground with sluices to the waterwheel on the left. the breastshot wheel is through the arch and can still turn. A disused railway viaduct is seen extreme left and is providing a vantage point. The roof of Whitaker's Mill (also part of the museum complex) is just visible above Higher Mill. The chimney with a tree growing out of it is on a mill down the road. This is a superb site and has had a major revamp. There are enthusiastic guides to explain and demonstrate in both mills and at £4 (2011 price) it is excellent value.
