Weatherboarded wall of the grade I listed 14th century timber framed aisled barn http://list.english-heritage.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1233070 Before the 18th century farm buildings were all sorts of colours, using what ever the farmer could lay his hands on. The black came in when farmers used old tar to protect the buildings which was far cheaper.
