Old and new stand together in the London Transport Museum. In the background is an RT type bus, the capital's standard double deck vehicle from the late 1940s and 1950s; it was the predecessor of the better known Routemaster. The vehicle in the foreground is in fact a full-sized mock up of a bus that has been designed as the successor to the Routemaster - note that the number plate is itself rather futuristic! It is intended that these will begin to appear on London's streets from 2012.
