A garage or tyre fitting service was at one time the previous occupant of this empty site. A Dunlop tyre sign on the house wall is the give away clue. The site had 3 commercial tenants. The house on the street frontage was "Bourne Tyre Trading", a family run tyre supply and fitting company, that for two generations had undercut the national traders and provided excellent service. The white sheds behind were "Allen & Smith, motor engineers", well known locally to specialise in performance vehicles and high quality work. The third, out of shot, had been a sewing shop but was last "The Cake Hut", a baking and catering outlet. All 3 were closed when the landlord thought he could make more money selling the site for housing, an ill-timed scheme that has been a victim of the recent recession.
