The island that supports the northern end of the Skye Bridge was once owned by the author Gavin Maxwell. He bought it, complete with the lighthouse keepers' cottages, from the Northern Lighthouse Board in 1966. The picture was taken from the water that once divided Eilean Bàn from Eilean Dubh. Now it is just an inlet, at the head of which is a causeway joining the islands and carrying the road to the bridge.
