The path runs parallel to the railway just to the right, perhaps this was an industrial branch line. The rail line that ran under the bridge connected Holbrook colliery to the Great Central Railway at Beighton. The colliery was connected to the Midland Railway but their carriage charges were high, having a second option of transport allowed delivery prices to be reduced.
